A teacher ofEnglish literature, she has also translated Toni Morrison’s Th eBluest Eye into Assamese. She has published more than fi ft eenbooks besides numerous works in vernacular magazines andmany of them have been translated into diff erent Indian languagesand English. Th e English translation of her novel Felanee wasshortlisted for the Crossword Book Award. She has received theBharatiya Bhasha Parishad Award (1995), KATHA award (1998),Sahitya Sanskriti Award (2009), Lekhika Samaroh Sahitya award(2011) and most recently, the Sahitya Akademi award(2014).
